Modular and compact Design
The e-C1's modular design makes it easy to upgrade your confocal system at a later stage (and many upgrades can be installed right in your laboratory).
With a small footprint, the e-C1 does not get in the way of other lab equipment. Consequently, there is plenty of work space left around the microscope.

Optical System
A successful fusion of Nikon's optical and electronics technologies, guarantees that the e-C1's resolution, contrast, and fluorescence image brightness are outstandingly crisp. Couple the e-C1 with Nikon's CFI60 high numerical aperture and long working distance objectives and you have a very powerful multi-dimensional imaging tool.
Recommended objective lenses include Nikon CFI60 VC Plan Apo, Plan Apo, Plan Fluor, S Fluor, and W Fluor series lenses. In addition, the 60x Plan Apo TIRF with temperature correction collar is highly recommended. Also, the 60x Plan Apo water immersion combines the highest numerical aperture with Nikon-only 270 µm working distance.

Laser, scanning and detection
S-Type for two lasers, attenuation by neutral density filters; EX-type with space for two lasers, continuous attenuation, manually w/o ND filters; All beams are combined in the laser unit and launched through an armored single mode polarization maintaining optical fiber.
Argon ion laser, Helium Neon (HeNe) and a variety of diode lasers are available.
User interchangable scan head includes dichroic mirrors to match all available laser combinations. Four PC controlled pinholes on a rotating drum provide customized balance between resolution and optical thickness.
Separate PMT detector unit containing two or three high sensitivity, extended red response, side window photomultiplier tubes; Optional transmission detector with its own fiber coupled, board mounted mini-PMT.; Detector unit is coupled to the scan head by a low loss multimode optical fiber; Emission filters and dichroic mirrors mounted in user interchangable Nikon EF-4 fluorescence filter blocks.
